Packs

Backpacks

Torso fit, ventilation, and volume. A 65-liter pack is the wrong answer for a lot of first nights.

The harness fits the torso, not the liter number. A pack that is the right brand and the wrong back length will hurt by mile six no matter the reviews. Load it with about 20 to 25 pounds in a shop if you can.

Volume should match the sleep system you already own. A bulky 20°F bag and a wide pad need more pack than a quilt and a slim pad. Extra empty volume becomes extra gear.

How to choose

  • Measure torso length before you compare features.
  • Women-specific fits are different models, not a colorway.
  • A daypack and a week-long winter pack are not the same purchase.
